As I started my final year in graduate school there was a problem with some paperwork for my student loan and it ended up being delayed for about a month. At this crucial time, I needed to produce work, but felt like I had to conserve materials.

My solution was to figure out how to cut and pierce thrown forms.

I had always liked Rosanjin’s pierced bowls and basket vases (see below) and I looked at paper cuts, lattices and all manner of opening up forms.
